Break A Leg

One of the challenges of traveling is finding consistent time to work out. As a professional speaker, my lips are fit, but the rest of my body requires additional exercise. Recently, I was in a hotel gym and was running, or rather, lumbering on the treadmill when the unexpected happened. I stepped awkwardly, and my artificial leg suddenly snapped in half! As you can imagine, the loud noise followed by my flying foot startled everyone. I gathered my broken parts, helped a man regain consciousness who had fainted from this shocking event, and then bunny-hopped back to my room.

Discovering the local Wal-Mart had spare limbs on back order, I was faced with an immediate problem. I needed a spare leg that absolutely, positively had to be there overnight for my 11AM speech. I realized this was a possibility because of the extraordinary service I have received over the years from my local FedEx driver, Dave Pava. I called FedEx with an unusual request I'm sure was repeated, "Please go to my house and pick up my spare leg." Dave retrieved the limb, placed it in a box, and as promised, it arrived promptly at 10AM.

Today, we all are facing new problems, which reveals new possibilities. Your challenge is likely different than a malfunctioning artificial leg, however we all face difficult circumstances. Our perspective changes when we become solution focused versus setback focused. Wouldn't you agree our lives are the product of what we choose to dwell on?

We often find just what we are looking for. If you believe new possibilities are non-existent, you will find evidence to support your pessimism. Have you heard others say, "It's not in the realm of possibility!"? Remember, you are the only person that determines your realm!

Possibilities are rarely limited by a lack of time, talent or training. It is our perception of our own limitations that holds us back. It is less about our aptitude or ability, and more about our chosen attitude about our aptitude and ability that defines our success.

Positively,
