E • Spire - Newsletter - Recession = Opportunity
Greetings from Roger Crawford
A recent Fortune Magazine article had a compelling observation I found inspiring in the times we are living in. "It is hard to be upbeat about a recession, but it can serve as an opportunity. Marathon runners and Tour de France competitors understand that it is in the uphill stage of the race that the lead changes hands."
Due to current economic conditions, many of us are feeling as if we are climbing a steep mountain of uncertainty. The need for hope and inspiration has never been greater as many people are feeling discouraged and fearful.
I believe we can discover optimism today by focusing on the possibilities instead of the problems. The competitive advantage of a positive mindset is that you are able to identify opportunity that a pessimist will overlook. We can be inspired by athletes who know from experience that it is during the most difficult part of competition when the leader is determined.
Recently, I heard an encouraging example of this possibility mindset when I spoke for a meeting at Apple. The emcee of the event said "We have all heard change with the times; however, if you wait until the times change it may be too late". His message communicated to me not to wait until the economy or circumstances change for new opportunities to emerge. By seeing possibility today, you will take the lead towards a successful tomorrow!
Positively,
Roger Crawford
